Tata Trent to add 7 Star Bazaar this year

Trent, the retail arm of Tata Group is on an expansion spree and contemplating to unveil 7 ?Star Bazaar? hypermarkets this year. This expansion is a part the group?s earlier declaration of adding 50 hypermarkets in the next 3 years across the nation.

According to P Venkatesalu, CFO, Trent, ?The expansion of Star Bazaar, the hypermarket cum gourmet format which sells food and grocery, will need a financial outlay of Rs. 275 crore.? Presently the group operates 7 Star Bazaar stores in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad. He also said that the hypermarket format would achieve a break-even point once it counts 25 stores of Star Bazaar. On the other hand, the company is all set to invest Rs. 170 crore this year behind the entire expansion of Star Bazaar, Westside and Landmark.
