Language matters
17th Dec'10, Bangalore
This December onwards it’s Kannada all the way for the OOH medium in Karnataka. On the occasion of the 77th All India Kannada Literature Sammelan and with reference to the Advertisement Bye-Law-2006, Part VI, Clause 7(7), Kannada, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike has asked the OOH medium to compulsorily include Kannada on all display boards/hoarding. The year 2009 was declared Kannada Anusthana Varsha (Kannada Implementation Year), hence it is of utmost importance to use Kannada Language in advertisements that are put up on boards and hoardings. Also, adequate steps have to be taken towards the proper and correct usage of the language. Starting December 24th the 77th All India Kannada Literature Sammelan has been organised in Bangalore after 44 years, because of which the above notice of strictly using Kannada has been implied. Any board or hoarding violating the said rule will be denied display and shall also bear a fine of Rs10,000 per board/hoarding. The language needs to be given prominence and by no means grammatical errors will be entertained, as per Advertisement Bye Law-2006, Part VI, Clause 7(7), during the first week of December’2010 itself.
